-The Indian Removal Act was passed by President Jackson -The first Native Americans who were moved in result of the passed act were the Choctaw Indians -The Cherokee Nation challenges the government's right to remove them from their land in: Cherokee Nation v. State of Georgia -The Treaty of New Echota is signed by both the American Government and members of the Cherokee Tribe -The Creek Indians are forced out of their lands by the Federal Government. -The process of pushing the Cherokee from their land is sped up by government soldiers holding them at gunpoint the entire trip -Despite the large percentage that had been lost along the way, thousands of Native Americans were taken to the Oregon territory to a reserve from their native homelands. |
